(SCENE) Metrospace, the City of East Lansing’s contemporary
art and performance space, is teaming up with the City Pulse newspaper for its first
poetry contest in October of 2012. Entries may reflect any theme, though
special consideration will be given to poems capturing or reflecting the arts
and life in East Lansing and/or the Greater Lansing Area. Poet Stephanie
Glazier from the Center for Poetry at Michigan State University will serve as
the contest judge. The deadline for
submissions is November 9th. The contest is open to everyone,
including students, teachers, and the general public. There are no entry fees.
To conclude the contest, a reading of selected entries will
be held on Wednesday, November 28th, at 7 p.m., at (SCENE) Metrospace, 110
Charles Street, at which time the winners will be announced.
Winning poems will be featured on (SCENE) Metrospace’s
website and Facebook page, as well on the City Pulse website. The first place
poem will also be published in an edition of City Pulse.
Entries must consist of no more than 3 poems per poet. For

Contest Guidelines:
1. All poems must be original work of the contestant. No more than 3 poems per entry. Each poem must be no longer than on page.
2. All poems must be previously unpublished.
3. Poems must be typed.
4. Poems in any form, fixed or free verse, may be submitted.
5. Contestants must not identify themselves in any way on any of the poems. Along with the submission include a cover sheet with your name, address, phone #, and email address. Also in the cover sheet include the number of poems submitted and the title of each poem. Any poem bearing the author's name will be disqualified.
6. Poems may be submitted electronically to scenemetrospace@gmail.com or mailed to (SCENE) Metrospace, City of East Lansing, 410 Abbot Road, East Lansing, Michigan 48823. Poems may also be dropped off at the main reception desk near the Abbot Road entrance inside East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road, business days after 12 p.m.

About the Judge:
Stephanie Glazier’s poems appear
in the Iraq Literary Review,
Calyx, and Foothill. She was a
semi-finalist in the 2012 “Discovery” Boston Review Poetry Contest and was
named a 2011 Lambda Fellow in poetry. She holds an MFA from Antioch University
LA and is assistant director at the Residential College for the Arts and Humanities
Center for Poetry at Michigan State University.
