THE BREAK-UPS / KINETIC STEREOKIDS / A PASCHAL CIRCUS: Saturday July 26
THE BREAK-UPS
KINETIC STEREOKIDS
A PASCHAL CIRCUS
SATURDAY, JULY 26
ALL AGES, $5, 8:00 PM
[doors at 7:00]
(SCENE) Metrospace will host an evening showcase of music featuring Lansing, MI-based band The Break Ups, Flint-based indie rock sampling mavens Kinetic Stereokids, and Grand Rapids-based experimental rock artists A Paschal Circus.
The Break Ups, led by guitarist and songwriter Timmy Rodriguez and known for their girl-boy harmonies, will be releasing “Skulls and Stuff,” the follow-up CD to 2007’s full-length “Blush Noisette.” The CD will be available for the first time at this concert. As members of the Lansing-based label/collective Good Time Gang Recordings, The Break-Ups feature a few familiar faces, including members of The Plurals.
Kinetic Stereokids sample-salted indie rock has been “song of the day” on the trend-setting Portland, Oregon radio station KEXP (“Explosions Were Heard”). KSK brings their incendiary live show back to (SCENE) Metrospace, with nods to jazz, psychedelia, and collaged elements worthy of Beck or The Beastie Boys. KSK remains one of Michigan’s best kept secrets.
A Paschal Circus, an experimental indie-rock outfit with one foot in no-wave style textural guitar and the raspy, Tom Waits-ian vocals of Chris Sommerfeldt, finds its other foot planted in the eclectic grave of pop music’s past. Full of left turns and offbeat structures, A Paschal Circus recently released the full-length “C’mon Baby, Kick The Dead Horse” CD.
