Exhibition, runs from May 2nd until June 22nd, during regular hours

(SCENE) Metrospace is about to unveil two new exhibtions!

Please join us on Friday, May 2nd, from 6-9 p.m., free, for the openings of Reductive Uncertainty: Sculpture & Prints by Local Artist, Matthaeus Leitner, and, Shifting Scenes: Award-winning Art from the East Lansing Art Festival.

The exhibition will be on display during regular gallery hours from May 3rd until June 22nd.

Matthaeus Leitner’s current exhibition includes conceptual work in photography and sculpture. Computer-generated images, based on actual photographs, explore the basis of today’s image production by zooming onto the pixel (or atomic) level. Contrary to the common belief in flawless digital image reproduction capabilities, pixel noise, blur and algorithmic randomness are influencing images on the storage level. Matthaeus’ art explores in a minimalist (or “reductive”) way how these imperfections or “uncertainties” define our emotional experiences of space.

Transferring the topic of uncertainty, noise, or blurriness to actual 3-dimensional work constitutes an artistic challenge. Matthaeus’ sculptures are often imprints of spaces in between actual things or sculptures of primitive solids with volumes cut out randomly. These minimal and highly conceptual sculptures allow the viewer to experience traces left behind on a physical and emotional level. Similar to the photographic work they visualize – in a reductive manner - the sculptures explore the topic of uncertainty in our spatial experiences.

Shifting Scenes: Award Winnning Art from the East Lansing Art Festival includes work by the following artists:

Sean Panich, of Lansing

Alina Poroshina, of Eagle
Julie Schwarz, of Sawyer
Susan Webber, of Lansing
