(SCENE) Metrospace will unveil a new exhibit, Oblique Patience, at an opening reception on Friday, May 7 from 6-9 p.m. The opening reception is free and open to the public and the exhibition will run May 7-June 27.
Oblique Patience, curated by Britta Urness, is a group show featuring a wide range of artists. The basis of the show requires the artists to use "Oblique Strategies" cards developed by musician Brian Eno and artist Peter Schmidt. Each card holds a guiding suggestion or a way to shake up one's thinking while within the creative process. The strategies provide parameters for artistic responses. The artists began with the idea or subject matter of "patience" and then chose at least three cards while they worked. The show is their response to this creative exercise.
Featured artists include Peter Schulte of Omaha, Nebraska.; Travis Head of New Paltz, New York; Nicole Donnelly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Jessica Stevens of Iowa City, Iowa; Jordan Acker Anderson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Jeff Van Kleek of San Luis Opisco, California; Jill Baker of Portland, Oregon; and many others.
