Scene&Heard: Pocket-sized

The SCENE&heard concert series presents its second show of the season on Saturday April 3, 2010, 7:30pm at SCENE Metrospace. The show complements “Pocket-Sized: A Close Look at Small Art,” one of three current exhibits at SCENE. “Pocket-Sized” will present a variety of takes on the idea of smallness, featuring collections of short pieces, pieces for small instruments (including toy piano), and close-up looks at larger works. The program will include music by John Cage, David Lang, Anton Webern, and MSU composers Benjamin Fuhrman, Sam Merciers, and Navjot Sandhu.

The show involves a variety of media, from orchestral instruments to folk instruments to electronics and live video.

An alternative to traditional concert aesthetics, Scene&Heard presents a more engaged and integrated showcase for the diverse artistic community at MSU. Come for music commenting on art and technology and culture at large, where art music connects jazz, noise, pop, poetry, theatre, tagging, YouTube, etc.
