(SCENE) is pleased to host a line-crossing, genre-blurring show that will serve to shake loose exam-week doldrums as well as please fans of adventurous, heartfelt music.
Returning to Lansing is Flint/Chicago-based Kinetic Stereokids, whose blend of found samples and hip hop-inflected beats provide a bed for ever-so-slightly downtempo, ever-so-slightly twisted songs that would delight anyone from The Books (in their more incisive moments) to Beck (in his more introspective moments).
Joining Kinetic Stereokids will be Dan Pehachek, a.k.a. Double Saginaw Familiarity, an acoustic artist who first thrilled a rapt (SCENE) Metrospace audience with an unscheduled mini-set at last month's sold-out A Story Told CD release. Dan is an avid songwriter with a quietly captivating stage presence and a downright bewitching baritone who makes frequent appearances at local open mics, where a groundswell of demand for dedicated solo performances has been steadily growing.
Traveling to Lansing from Grand Haven for the evening's concert will also be Loch Hame, a band with equal footing in strong songwriting and roots in indie rock. Loch Hame has been playing throughout Michigan, infusing their densely panoramic songs with a sort of telepathic sense of melody, turning on a dime and carrying audiences right along with them.
Initiating the evening's music with clear-eyed acoustic songwriting is current East Lansing resident Nick Van Huis. Nick cut his musical teeth singing for the Beverly Hills, Michigan-based Pictures In Green, and continues to filter influences ranging from Robyn Hitchcock to M. Ward through his unique original songs.
We are excited to offer this late-breaking line-up of some of our newly-discovered favorites. Space is limited for this show, we recommend arriving early.
