Motion- The Grand Opening
East Lansing, Mich.- East Lansing’s alternative art space, (SCENE)Metrospace will unveil its new gallery and exhibit after months ofanticipation and laborious remodeling, with a reception on Friday, May11 from 6-9 pm. The new gallery is located at 110 Charles St. in downtown East Lansing (right next to Georgio’s Pizza).
The evening will celebrate the opening of the new location and the volunteers who made it possible. Also, the grand opening will feature a preview of the new “Motion” exhibit.
Featured in the exhibit are Lansing-based artists Joshua Ardis (mixed media), Richard Galosy (photography), Tom Sheerin (paintings created with a foosball table), Craig Mitchell Smith (life-size glass marionette), Lisa Truax (ceramics), Anthony Vasquez (painting) and Zane Vicknair (video), as well as East Lansing-based painter Dorothy Brooks, Kalamazoo-based kinetic sculptor Karen Bondarchuk, Holland-based photographer Jim Rasmussen, Okemos-based watercolorist Gretchen Foster, Adrian-based painter Kelly Papcun, and Ann Arbor-based duo Chuck Sipperley and Sean Patrick, who will perform at Friday's opening with violin bows on a 30-foot piece of stretched piano wire.
Complementing the reception with music will be finger style acousticguitar master, Nick Schillace and as well as the experimental ambient instrumental duo In Door Park. In Door Park consists of Schillace on guitars and Jon Moshier providing percussion and looped electronics.
The reception will be catered by Harpers Restaurant and Brewpub. The event is free and open to the public, however space is limited.
(SCENE) Metrospace is located at 110 Charles St. and is open Wednesday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. through the gracious support of volunteers, as well as regular hours Fridays from 6-9 p.m., Saturdays from 6-9 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. during scheduled exhibits.
